"sprung"
Winter's passed us by,
disappeared, I blinked my eye.
All the doom and gloom,
it's all over none too soon.
Spring has sprung, all around,
birds and bees a lovely sound.
My mood has changed, all is right,
no more icy, snowy nights.
The chill of Winter's gone,
hung around for way too long.
Thought he'd got the best of me,
I'm still standing, feeling free.
Spring comes only once a year,
but it wipes out all my fear.
Crocus, roses all sublime,
I feel love, now is the time.
Fianl poem of the night. a rewrite not very Dark Prince like. Could it be improved.?
This is well done, light airey and filled with hope. I like the subject and the way you have approached it. As for the Dr., I would like to add that "fluff" is ground up paper used in disposable diapers and is obviously what is packed inside his head to keep it from imploding.
Reply:A rare jewel of all gems written by an uncommon poet for all seasons - Happiness, high above the cold winter snow and the dark bottomless pit. An ornament of beauty, depicting my name. This type poetry leaves readers of spring with happy thoughts throughout the day. Thanks for writing for all of us! That is a rare gift.
Reply:Loved it. If you really want to improve it you could add allusions, alliteration, metaphors, ect. otherwise it's fine the way it is. God bless!
Reply:lmao!!!! Ahah Steve did you hit your head??!! This is killer!! LOL its way to fluffy for you Steve! Good job, but its just not your thing! Please go backk to being my DARKK prince. :) xoxo good job

What do you put on tulip bulbs to make them bloom?
I planted many bulbs last fall--tulips, crocus, daffidils and I don't know what else. I didn't put any fertilizer with them. Now that they are coming up, can I put something on them to make sure they bloom real nice?
At the store I saw "bone meal" for tulips--Can I use this now?? Or should I wait till after they bloom then put bone meal on them for next Spring.
My front yard has many bulbs coming up but I noticed in the back yard not to many. Which means squirrels, rabbits or deer. I bought some "liquid fence" to try but does human hair and cat poop do the trick to make these critters stay away.
What do you put on tulip bulbs to make them bloom?
Tulips don't need feeding before they flower.
If you want to feed them wait till after they bloom, but only if your soil is poor.
After the tulips have bloomed, make sure you don't cut their foliage, because letting them die back naturally is what Really feeds the bulb.
the flowers are already formed inside the bulb! isn't that cool!
it could be that the bulbs in the backyard have had cooler temperatures or more shade and they are just slower to emerge. Have you noticed holes and digging where you planted?
Yep, tulips are planted in fall and they bloom in spring. Like iris's. They don't reproduce as well as iris's though. Depending on your climate at least. Generally tulip bulbs will grow until they are about 12 cm, then they'll divide. When tulips make new baby bulbs off the sides they'll take another 4 years or so to flower. If they like the spot they're in, they could do some nice reproducing, depending where you are. But generally I think of tulips being a bit finicky and not naturalizing like daffodils, crocus, or iris.
Reply:The rule of thumb is only use fertilizer DURING growing/blooming season. In the case of tulips. or other bulbs do it as soon as they begin to emerge. It is always best to use bone meal in the fall when you plant.
Use a all purpose fertilizer such as a 10-10-10 and follow direction on the box.
Otherwise fertilize in the early spring.
Q. For the best spring flower display, when should I fertilize my tulip and daffodil bulbs?
A. To produce the maximum number of top-quality spring flowers, tulips and daffodils require care first in fall, at planting time, and then again in spring.

Reply:Tulips are to me very similar to the iris. First with my experience they need to be in the ground a full year before they reaaly have pretty blooms. Other than that there is no real trick. Mine on the back side of my house have more daylight sun and are starting to flower now, on the other hand ones on the end having little sun or afternoon sun are only green leaves still. Give them time my dear, after awile they will be mutiplying and blooming and will make you proud. Good luck to you. I'm a yard person myself!

How can I identify a flower growing in my yard?
I know its a bulb. Its small like a crocus. Its reddish-orange with a bright yellow clover-shaped ring in the middle.
I have a photo of it in my photos in myspace. if you go to my profile you see the link to myspace where it is. I dont know how to post it here.
Any advise at all is helpful! Thanks!
How can I identify a flower growing in my yard?
What you have there is, indeed, a red crocus. Check out this site for verification. The six petals and shape of the middle are a dead give away for this particular flower.
Reply:If you live in a northern climate it will be a crocus. Too early for other bulbs to be blooming.

Hello English Friends across the Great Blue! What do you plan on growing in your gardens this Spring?
I'm really curious to hear what folks in other countries grow in their home flower and veggie gardens. We live in the Midwest, in the States, and here's what we'll have:
Loads of tulips, daffodils, crocus, hyacinths, and other bulbs my girls planted with me in the fall.
We'll plant zinnias, cosmos, morning glories, roses, along with butterfly bushes, stargazer lillies, daylillies, lilacs, mulberry bushes, and tons of other flowers.
Our veg garden will have loads of tomatoes, Indian corn (the girls love the colors), cucumbers, and some herbs. We have deer, rabbits, and bunnies, so lots of other veggies get nibbled down. :)
I was wondering what you all grow? How big are your yards? Ours is .78 acre which is 2,608 square meters . We usually start planting our spring gardens around Mother's Day in mid-May - is it the same for you?
Thanks so much! I can't wait to get the Spring Gardens going, and have always wondered what gardeners in other countries planted. :D
Hello English Friends across the Great Blue! What do you plan on growing in your gardens this Spring?
I prefer growing fruit %26amp; veggies rather than pretty things (that's my dad's job) but I have bought some Cosmos bulbs - the type that smell of chocolate.
This year, I am growing from seed -
Tomatoes (cherry and normal)
Physilis (aka cape gooseberry)
Runner beans
Haricot beans
Garlic (planted in December)
Mushrooms (from spores)
The physilis and tomatoes will be kept inside my greenhouse, although the tomatoes could live outside quite happily.
I also have (as perrenials) -
Lemon balm
Raspberries
Blackcurrants
Blackberries (more of a weed, we keep trying to get rid of them)
Mint
Thyme
Fennel
Strawberries
I also have a couple of pet chickens who lay eggs, and produce fertiliser :) I couldn't begin to list all the other, non edible plants in the garden, there are so many, but our garden is about 100 - 130 foot long and 15 - 20 foot wide. I have just planted the seeds for the tomatoes and physilis, but most others will have to wait a bit longer, once it has warmed up and we are no longer having frosts.
PS I'm in SW England.
Reply:except for the pysalis and chickens I am right down there with Helena in location (Tavistock, Devon) and what I'm growing
Reply:I'm trying to grow grass.
I'm failing miserably. I think my fingers are red, not green

What makes your heart sing? What lifts your spirit?
The robins have come back; the crocus and daffodils are starting to bloom. I know winter's not over, but spring is coming. That lifts my spirit.
What does the same for you?
What makes your heart sing? What lifts your spirit?
Being able to help someone lifts my spirits. I don't have a lot of money, but small kindness...opening doors, helping older people, rescuing an animal (I drove from Ill. to the Western slopes of Co. to get a kitty that was stranded near the cattle), smile, smile, smile at others. Ask seriously how they are doing. Tell salespersons you appreciate their help. Just small things. It comes back tenfold.
Reply:My dogs frolicking in the yard and my daughter's laughter.
Reply:I love Spring, too! Besides the beautiful spring weather, my spirit is also lifted by the love of my sons, my husband, and most of all God's love.
Reply:Sitting in my yard in the evening watching the beautiful sunset.
Reply:I'm opposite. I'm elated when little signs of fall start showing up. The first one is school supplies in the stores. I silently giggle with gladness and glee that the heat was soon end.

It may sound a bit too "earthy" for this question, but I am walking on tiptoes and singing to myself and can't stop grinning. (This has been a long process.)
Another thing that made my morning today was when you chose my cookies as best answer to a previous question.
I guess both of these events are in the category of small kindnesses within relationships.
My daughter told me, "I can do this myself, and the toilet cleans itself, so you don't have to do it anymore, Mommy." I'd be elated no matter what her motivation, but that it came from a place of kindness to me made it even better.
I'm also getting a kick out of the birthday cake that's in the oven, that I plan bringing to a friend later today, as a surprise.

There is so much sad stuff going on in the news nowadays?
what cheers you up? I felt quite cheery yesterday when I noticed some crocus plants growing, its a sign that spring is on its way, followed by summer!
There is so much sad stuff going on in the news nowadays?
I focus on my holidays, we haven't booked it yet but I was looking at Greece last night on the net, we love all the Greek Islands, but hubby wants to try Dom Rep this year.
Anyhow, it cheers me up just looking.....

Reply:There's so much sad stuff going on in the news nowadays because there's a lot of news organizations reporting on stuff nowadays. Bad things like starvation, war, and disease have always happened. You just hear about it more. But they actually happen less now than a hundred years ago because of the advance of civilization.
What cheers me up is that in spite of all the bad stuff in the news, the world is a better place than it was a hundred or two hundred years ago. Global literacy has skyrocketed, smallpox has been wiped out, and polio has been nearly wiped out. The average American today has a more comfortable life than the average American of 1900.
Another thing that cheers me up is that news organizations report on sad stuff going on in the news. It's only news if it's unusual. They don't usually report on flowers blooming or people having a good time because stuff like that is very common. They report on murders because murders are relatively uncommon. I'd rather have murder be uncommon enough to report on than have crocus plants be uncommon enough to report on.

Planting spring bulbs?
I live in south central PA...supposed to be in the 60's this week.To late to plant daffofils, crocus' etc.I think they should do O.K....any advice?..Thanks!!!
Planting spring bulbs?
Yes you can plant bulbs during the january thaw, they need at least four days to establish roots before going dormant for the rest of winter.
Reply:Shouldn't be too late if you can work the soil. Cover well with mulch to protect against any further frosts. Or you can store in a cool dry place until a few weeks or so before you plan to plant. Place bulbs in a refrigerator drawer for 3 to 4 weeks before planting. If possible put in a seperate compartment by themselves, so forgotten fruits or vegetable won't rot (which causes a gas that may be harmful to the bulbs). I use these two methods on a regular basis and I have never had any trouble with the bulbs not blooming. Sometimes (depending on the flower bulbs) they will grow but not bloom until the second year. Good luck and happy planting!
Reply:If you can work the soil, you can plant your bulbs. They may come up a bit if it stays warm for a while, but they'll figure things out on their own once spring actually arrives.
Good luck :-)
Reply:As long as the ground isn't frozen, you can plant them. We planted some on New Year's Eve, just before we got 6 inches of snow.
The only problem that you will possibly run into is that the soil is very wet this time of year. When we dug the hole for our bulbs, it started filling up with water. Also if you are planting them in an arrangement, the clumps of dirt will disturb them when you fill the hole back in.
What we did was to place a layer of newspaper in the bottom of the hole and place an inch or two of dry potting mixture over it. We then arranged the bulbs and covered them with a couple of inches of compost (you could also use more potting mix) before filling the hole back up with the dirt. It came out slightly mounded, but that will help a little with keeping the hole from filling up with more water from the rain and snow.

Reply:put the bulbs in your fridge crisper drawer about six weeks before your spring.. then plant them...the cold chill in fridge will help speed things up and you will have spring bulbs
Reply:Not too late to plant them, I have done so quite often when I found them on closeout in January. They do need about 8 wks of cold to bloom tho so may bloom late the first year, after that they will be on track. As long as you can get a trowel in the ground!
Trouble with keeping anything in the fridge like that is that if you keep any fruit in there also, the ripening fruit puts off an ethane gas that will kill the flower buds in bulbs.

Simple Subject and predicate help!?
Underline the simple subject once, and the simple predicate twice.
1. Nobody would believe such a story.
2. Over the years Steven has worked at several jobs.
3. Fountain pens are not very common.
4. My best friends will visit me in the hospital.
5. The senator gave a rousing speech at the convention.
6. The huge silver airplane landed at the airport.
7. The new weather forecaster predicted rain for the weekend.
8. The new chef served delicious ham sandwiches for lunch.
9. The football fans cheered wildly.
10. A single yellow crocus peeped from under the snow.

Simple Subject and predicate help!?
I can give you some guidance on this. The simple subject is the noun that is "doing" the action or that the sentence is mostly about. The predicate is the verb and the rest of the sentence after that.

Best time to plant bulbs for northern Michigan?
I recently got some grape hyacinth, snowdrop, and crocus bulbs for my garden. What's the best planting time for the Upper Peninsula of Michigan? Also, should any of the bulbs be planted sooner or later than the other bulbs? Any help is appreciated :)
Best time to plant bulbs for northern Michigan?
Fall is the time to plant bulbs, anytime before the soil freezes. You can plant them all at the same time if you like. Take some time to visualize the heights of the flowers while you are planning the planting. You can plant the different bulbs in groups close together for masses of color. Also take into account the different blooming times.

Reply:I live in a similar climate and my bulbs have always performed best when planted in the fall. In my option, Spring is too late because a lot of growth could take place before the soil could normally be worked. Go for it!

2. Walk to bathroom wearing long dressing gown. If you see your boyfriend/husband along the way, cover up any exposed flesh and rush to bathroom.

Question about climbing roses?
The wall of my mum's shed has been spraypainted. I've advised her to attach a trellis to it and plant some climbing roses. If i buy the 'Rosa Maigold' climbing rose in a 4litre pot (from crocus.co.uk) how long will it take until it starts to grow? Or does anyone have any better ideas for covering the shed - just on one of its four walls. Thank you.
Question about climbing roses?
Be careful about getting a climbing rose that grows quickly. Yes, it will cover the wall quickly in the first year or two, but every year after that they can become a major pain in the butt from growing too fast and spreading.
You have to be careful when planting something like that. Farmers once used the multi-flora rose which is kind of a climbing type rose basically almost like a fence. Now 40-60 years later farmers are still having problems with them because the rose is like a weed. And now the farmers can't hardly get rid of them no matter how hard they try (brush killer, burning them, pulling them up by the roots, etc) 40-60 years after the roses were first planted.
If you get a climbing rose or any kind of climbing plant, get one that grows halfway slow and isn't considered vigorous. Yes, it will be longer for it to cover the wall. But you'll be thanking yourself years down the road, because if you get something vigorous you'll be having to trim like crazy after the first 2-3 years.
Also be careful with climbing plants such as ivy they can tear down walls (especially brick and stucco) and get into every little crack and cause problems if you aren't careful. Climbing ivy can also be somewhat hard to get rid of too.
Reply:a trumpit vine grows really easy and flowers a climbing ivy does too but it dosent flower a ivy like boston or english ivy will stay green even in the winter where a trumpit vine or a climbung rose will lose there folage during the winter
Reply:I wouldn't use a climbing rose to cover a shed. Unless you carefully prune them the flowers will be at the top and the bottom (and the shed) will be bare. Mile a minute is OK but you have to be absolutely ruthless with it - baring the shed every year. Ivy is good but if the site is suitable for a rose it probably isnt for an ivy which like shade.
I would put Clematis up it - just make sure the roots are cool (cover with a slab).
Reply:Sounds a nice idea but you know Rosa Maigold is meant to be vigourous don't you? The sunnygardens.com site says that it can take over a yard if not planted? Can the shed hold the weight if your Mum can't prune it regularly?
Speed of growth will depend on the quality of the ground its planted in, and if it gets the conditions it likes.
Avoid the other persons suggestions of Mile A Minute or Russian Vine especially if you only want one side of the shed covered. I had one on a fence by my gate. Had to prune it 4 times a year, and the postie hated the ants that like climbing up it. Nice plant but only in right situation.
Reply:Ivy is nice and grows quickly................
Reply:Yeah! buy a plant commonly referred to as MILE A MINUTE (Russian Vine) - it will cover the shed wall in ONE season - Plant now and by summer it will have covered the lot - trim back hard in winter and it will do it all over again next year - The white variety is the hardiest and quickest growing - can grow 4 -6 inches in a day!
Flowers are white - sprays and look really nice - a little trellis or bamboo canes for it to climb up and around will be fine

How To Shower Like A Women/Man?
How to Shower Like a Woman:
1. Take off fourteen layers of clothing you put on this morning. 2. Walk to bathroom wearing robe and towel on head. If you happen to see husband along the way, ignore juvenile "turban-head" jokes and run to bathroom. 3. Look at womanly physique in mirror and stick out stomach so as to complain about how fat you're getting. 4. Turn on hot water only. 5. Get in the shower, once you've found it through all the steam. 6. Look for facecloth, armcloth, legcloth, long loofah, wide loofah, and pumice stone. 7. Wash hair once with cucumber and lemon shampoo with 83 added vitamins. 8. Rinse hair. Condition your hair with cucumber and lemon conditioner enhanced with natural crocus oil. Leave on hair for fifteen minutes. 9. Wash face with crushed apricot facial scrub for ten minutes until red and raw. 10. Try to wash entire rest of body with Ginger Nut and Java Cake bodywash. 11. Complain bitterly when you realize that your husband has once again been EATING your ginger nut and java cake body wash. 12. Rinse conditioner off hair (this takes at least fifteen minutes, as you must make sure that all the conditioner has come off). 13. Debate shaving armpits and legs and decide that you can't be bothered. 14. Scream loudly when your husband flushes the toilet and you get a rush of cold water. 15. Turn hot water on full and rinse off. 16. Dry with a towel the size of a small African country.

How to Shower Like a Man:
1. Sit on the edge of the bed and take off the underwear you've walking around the house in all morning. Leave them on the floor. 2. Walk to bathroom wearing a towel. If you see your wife along the way, flash her. 3. Look at your manly physique in the mirror. Pat your beer belly with affection as if it was a great achievement. Suck in your gut to see if you have pecs. (No.) 4. Turn on the water. 5. Check for pecs again. (Still no.) 6. Get in the shower. 7. Don't bother to look for a washcloth. (You don't use one.) 8. Spend 5 minutes soaping your body and rinse. 9. Spend 15 minutes washing your crotch and surrounding area. 10. Wash your rear end. 11. Shampoo your hair, do not use conditioner. 12. Make a shampoo mohawk. 13. Open the door and look at yourself in the mirror, giggle. 14. Pee. 15. Repeat #9, because it felt good. 16. Rinse off and get out of the shower. 17. Pick up the towel and sniff it. If it smells okay, go ahead and dry off with it. If it doesn't smell okay, holler to your wife to find you a clean one. 18. Return to the bedroom wearing the towel, if you pass your wife, flash her.

Take off clothes while sitting on the edge of the bed and leave them in apile.
Walk naked to the bathroom.
If you see wife along the way, shake wiener at her making the woo-woo sound.
Look at your manly physique in the mirror.
Admire the size of your wiener and scratch your @$$.
Get in the shower.
Wash your face.
Wash your armpits.
Blow your nose in your hands and let the water rinse them off.
Fart and laugh at how loud it sounds in the shower.
Spend majority of time washing privates and surrounding area.
Wash your butt, leaving those coarse butt hairs stuck on the soap.
Wash your hair. Make a Shampoo Mohawk.
Pee.
Rinse off and get out of shower.
Partially dry off.
Fail to notice water on floor because curtain was hanging out of tub thewhole time.
Admire wiener size in mirror again.
Leave shower curtain open, wet mat on floor, light and fan on.
Return to bedroom with towel around waist. If you pass wife, pull off towel, shake wiener at her and make the woo-woo sound again.
Throw wet towel on bed.
If there is anyone among you who did not laugh at the truth behind this, there is something SO very wrong with you. Have a great day !

Reply:I don't know how to respond, as this didn't really sound like a question. But I'd like to respond to fcastened. You are sooo close to being right on the money with your views on how a man showers. You must have a hidden cam in some guys shower. I had a good chuckle over this one. Thanks!
Reply:LMFAO....too funny!!!!
Yes that's what we do and fukc you stupid men who know we are in the shower and you flush anyway!!
Reply:HOW TO SHOWER LIKE A MAN...
--------------------------------------...
Oh, and....woo woo!!!
