Spring planting???

Ok, I live in Central illinois, I don't know what zone I am in but I would like to plant some tulips, crocus, lillies, etc... Can I plant those this spring and have them come up this year??? If so, when this spring should I plant them?

Spring planting???
Last fall is when you should have planted them. It is about time for Crocus to be blooming. You live in zone 5 or 6. You can still plant summer bulbs, ie gladiolous.

You may be able to force the spring bulbs.

You can always plant them, if they bloom great, if not they will bloom next year for sure.
Reply:Get ahold of bulbs called Peacock Gladiolus or Acidanthera. They are white with dark centers, they will come up if you plant them this spring. You should probably plant them in the middle of May. You can get them at Walmart, etc.
Reply:A nursery such as Hastings and Burgress have zone charts in their sales books. MAYBE on their websites? Tulips should be planted in the fall or winter I think but the people that sell them mail-order ship them whenever the planting time arrives. We are just getting some of our shrubs we ordered last fall because it is time to plant them. I also have some easter lillies already breaking the ground and some others are blooming. Check with your local nursery.
Reply:you should plant these in the fall. maybe you can plant some summer annuals in late spring and in the fall plant the tulips ect...

you can also try elephant ears after frost is gone. they are bulbs and all you do it plant them, watch them grow all summer, and then they die to the bulb in the fll. them dig up the bulb and put it in a 40 degree room where it doesnt reach freezing.
