There is so much sad stuff going on in the news nowadays?

what cheers you up? I felt quite cheery yesterday when I noticed some crocus plants growing, its a sign that spring is on its way, followed by summer!

There is so much sad stuff going on in the news nowadays?
I focus on my holidays, we haven't booked it yet but I was looking at Greece last night on the net, we love all the Greek Islands, but hubby wants to try Dom Rep this year.

Anyhow, it cheers me up just looking.....
Reply:Not only am I also Essex girl born and bred. I also look to the spring and summer. Just before christmas I saw daffodils would you believe that. I hate the cloudy overcast skies and love the sunshine and flowers. My son married an American girl and t he lives in Montana, hes my youngest and when my husband and I go visit, that really cheers me up.I am not a winter person at all
Reply:I remember a time, long ago when the press might have reported flowering crocuses (crocusi ?), but, now, if it bleeds, it leads is the order of the day, and the more misery the better.Looking out at the sunshine and blue skies, the swifts and swallows will be here before long.....
Reply:Getting home with tired feet from working so hard and realizing some people have tired feet from walking around looking for a job much needed!
Reply:There's so much sad stuff going on in the news nowadays because there's a lot of news organizations reporting on stuff nowadays. Bad things like starvation, war, and disease have always happened. You just hear about it more. But they actually happen less now than a hundred years ago because of the advance of civilization.

What cheers me up is that in spite of all the bad stuff in the news, the world is a better place than it was a hundred or two hundred years ago. Global literacy has skyrocketed, smallpox has been wiped out, and polio has been nearly wiped out. The average American today has a more comfortable life than the average American of 1900.

Another thing that cheers me up is that news organizations report on sad stuff going on in the news. It's only news if it's unusual. They don't usually report on flowers blooming or people having a good time because stuff like that is very common. They report on murders because murders are relatively uncommon. I'd rather have murder be uncommon enough to report on than have crocus plants be uncommon enough to report on.
Reply:Wont be long now bud, we'll soon be out there pottering around as usual!....
